BEFORE CARPET INSTALLATION
In your rooms receiving new carpet, it’s important to remove all furniture, unplug all electronics, take down all wall hangings, and empty out the closets as well. Since carpet cannot be installed over existing flooring, the old floors will need to be removed completely and properly disposed of. Once the subfloor has been assessed by your installers, and any imperfections have been repaired, you are cleared for carpet installation. We recommend completing any painting touch-ups in the room before your new carpet goes down. Also, your installer will recommend the best carpet installation method such as glue-down or nail-down based on your carpet type, rooms dimensions, and subfloor conditions.
DURING CARPET INSTALLATION
On the day of your new carpet installation, it’s important to be home to answer any questions from your installation crew and help troubleshoot any problems that arise. Designate a specific area in the home for your carpet installers to keep potentially dangerous tools such as nail guns and staplers, and to cut carpet as needed. Make sure to keep kids and pets away from the rooms receiving new carpet, and from the installer’s work area. Depending on the number of rooms that get new carpet, the installation process will generally take from 1-2 days.
AFTER CARPET INSTALLATION
It’s also important to observe some practices after your new carpet installation is finished. If your new carpet is nailed down, it is most likely ready for light traffic right away! If your new carpet is glued to the subfloor, you will need to wait at least 24 hours or until your carpet installers specify before walking on it. Certainly wait at least 24-48 hours before returning your furniture onto the new carpet. When vacuuming your new carpet, do not be surprised if you see shedding or loose tufts above the pile. You can snip the loose tufts and the normal fluff shedding will reduce over time.
